Indian Feng Shui - Vasthu Sastra Guide

Last Saturday, I bought an Indian feng shui book, “Vasthu Sastra Guide” written by T. Selvakumar after attending a the author's talk, which is organized by UTAR (Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman) at Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.

Basically, the talk is very similar to the contents in the book, which is very useful for dwellers to enhance their health, wealth and happiness. I found that the most important point in this book is that we have to store the good energy from the north-east because the Earth tilts towards the north-east by 23.8 degrees. In Chinese feng shui, the energy is known as ‘chi’. There are several ways to keep this good energy and also, to avoid the bad energy from coming into the house. Below are some examples given from the book:

  1. Have as many windows and doors as possible in the north and east to keep the good energy from coming in.

  2. Do not open the window and door, if possible to let the good energy from flowing out and inviting the bad energy into the house.

  3. Place clean and clear water in the north-east quadrant of the house.

There are a total of 59 chapters in this book talking about how to position the room, choosing the colour of clothes that should be worn on a particular day, ideal house plan, some case studies, and how to enhance family relationship. This book is very suitable for dwellers who seeking harmony and peace. However, there are an issue that I am not very satisfied in this book, which is the author rarely explain the reason behind an action proposed especially for the chapters on house and there is a lack of solutions by the author to a problem pointed out in some of the chapters. I hope the author can improve on the flaw in this book for his future publications. Other than that, this high quality, fully coloured and illustrated book, which priced at RM35 only, is highly recommended for beginners as it is easy to understand and fun to learn.
